About Me

Hi! I’m Marquita. I’m an affordable fashion and natural hair enthusiast who works at a community college by day and teaches karate by night. Courage, Kinks and Curves™ (CKC) is my blog where I share with you some of the things I love: encouraging quotes, natural hair, and how I style my hourglass body type on a budget.

About Courage, Kinks, and Curves™

The inspiration behind Courage, Kinks, and Curves is three-fold:

Courage

– “Act with courage, and may the Lord be with those who do well.” 2 Chronicles 19:11
Believe it or not, I’ve always been a shy (and sometimes quiet) person. I’ve been reading blogs for a few years now, and always knew that starting a blog was something I could do and wanted to do. I actually sat on the idea for over a year until I finally decided, no more of that! I told myself I was going to step out on faith and act with courage! I’m so glad I did! Though starting a blog has certainly forced me to step outside my comfort zone, I’m excited to see where this endeavor takes me!

This blog is for you if: you want to be inspired!
Check out CKC’s “Courageous Quotes” page to see a list of quotes I love and live by!

Kinks

– “Don’t remove the kinks from your hair. Remove them from your brain.” – Marcus Garvey

This blog is for you if: you love natural hair!
CKC will show the many ways in which I wear my hair. I’ve been natural for over three years and I love the versatility of my kinky textured hair. As I continue on my natural hair journey, I hope to try new styles and keep you all up to date on the products I use while growing and maintaining healthy hair.

Curves

– “Curve: the loveliest distance between two points”. –Mae West
I believe curvy comes in ALL sizes. Whether you’re a size 4 or 14, you should love yourself, play up your best assets and embrace your curves (or if you feel like you don’t have any, wear clothing that creates the illusion of curves)! I am representing for the smaller curvy girls…size 6/8 and loving it!

This blog is for you if: you love to shop and look great, but don’t want to spend all your money in the process! Courage, Kinks and Curves™ will showcase how I dress for my body type, accentuating my best features, while minimizing what I feel are my flaws. I define my style as “fashionably casual” or “casual cute”. When shopping, the main things I like to consider before purchasing clothing or accessories are style, fit, quality, comfort, possibilities for restyling and affordability. Since I believe in buying items that are budget friendly, I often buy things at discounted prices or with a coupon. I often pair pieces from my closet with the new items that I’ve recently purchased to mix the old with the new. Whenever I do pay full price, it’s usually for staple pieces or items that I consider inexpensive.
